PHP IMAP Extension getting dropped by more and more distributions

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

As i was trying to upgrade our 1.15 instance to 1.17 i was missing the PHP8 IMAP Extension in the repos of OpenSUSE Leap 15.4.
Further investigating shows that they completly dropped delivering packages with php8-imap because this extension is not maintained anymore.
Even further it looks like that you can not install it anymore via pecl and php.net because the package vanished there too.

Is anyone here aware of this?

If you’re running 1.17.x you shouldn’t need php-imap extension. We need to remove it from requirements. We switched to laminas-mail instead of native methods so you should be fine.
