did some more testing and see the following:
in the case where I drag an image to be displayed in the ticket as part of the "post reply", this same error is thrown each time for either a png or jpg file:

In the case of an attachment, a .zip file is uploaded without error, but a png, jpg, pdf, or txt
undefined 500 is contents of the "File Upload Error" dialog box.
