Captcha does not show on open ticket page

When a user opens a new ticket, only the topic, issue summary and details fields show. No captcha is presented. When the ticket cannot be created, because the summary is missing for instance, the page does present the captcha.

I'm running an almost identical setup on Ubuntu but my PHP is 8.1.9 and MySQL is 8.0.30; but this doesn't really matter. Anyways, I cannot replicate the same issue. Can you review your logs (general server logs, webserver error logs, PHP error logs, MySQL/MariaDB error logs, osTicket System Logs, Browser Console logs, etc.) for any related errors?

There is no help ticket selected upon opening a ticket. A user has to select one first. Only then do the ticket details appear.

Does it make a difference that only registered users can create tickets? Are they exempt from captcha's?

Do you have a Content Security policy configured? You might be blocking the captcha. If so, you can hit F12 ( if you're using FireFox at least) and use the inspection tab and see if any content is getting blocked.

I have just disabled the requirement for users to be registered on a test environment and now a captcha is presented.
I can't find a reference to this in the documents. The help tip on the configuration page does not mention this difference.
So either a bug, or an undocumented feature?

I believe it’s because the user is authenticated therefore doesn’t necessarily need captcha. Captcha is used when the form is open to anyone (ie. don’t have to authenticate to create a ticket).

That does make sense. But the tool tip does not explain this difference. Maybe update it?
