Microsoft started enforcing Modern Authentication (OAuth2) back in October and Gmail had enabled it a while ago but are not necessarily enforcing it yet. With Gmail you can enable and setup 2FA and create an App Password to use as the email's Password in osTicket. More information for creating an App Password can be found in Gmail's documentation.
So, if you want to use MS you have to configure Modern Authentication and with Gmail you have options. I would recommend Modern Authentication for both as that's the direction the world is moving in. We have step-by-step guides for configuring Modern Authentication (OAuth2) for both providers here:
To note, configuring Modern Authentication requires you to install/enable the OAuth2 plugin (available on our website).
