Custom queues vs saved searches

Hi, we just upgraded from v1.10 to the latest 1.17. This gave us a number of new features, including custom queues. I cannot figure out what is the difference between Saved Searches and Custom Queues other than where they appear in the UI. When should we use one vs the other?
I ask because I am getting a bunch of db #1064 errors which according to the forum is due to saved searches. I plan to work through the errors and delete the offending searches. Should I recreate the searches or create queues instead?

OK, I figured it out. If I don't want to inherit any search criteria, like "open", "closed" or "my tickets" then I should use a saved search. For example I want to see "all" tickets that were logged in my department over the past month I can only do that with a saved search.
