Problems with the e-mail setup

Hello everyone!

I have an Ubuntu Server 20.04 as Mailserver with Postfix for SMTP and Dovecot for IMAP. I do not know how to configure OSTicket to connect to the mail server. At the latest it fails at authentication. As soon as I try to authenticate I get this message: cannot read - connection closed?

If someone could help me, I would be very grateful!

Seems as though the software cannot connect to your mailserver. Please reach out to your mail provider to find the correct login and connection information. Once you confirm that's correct then you'll need to contact your mail provider and have them check their logs for any authentication attempts. If they see no login attempts then most likely you have a firewall on the server, a port being blocked, etc.

I have a self-hosted mail server, and a self signed ssl certficate. On the OSTicket server the CA is trusted, as well as on the mail server.

in dovecot the ssl certificate is defined correctly and other mail applications work correctly (thunderbird, android and IOS devices etc).

Would you know perhaps on which settings it depends explicitly there? Then I could look at what I still have to configure. I can't find anything at all on the internet about my case.

Did you find a solution? I'm getting the exact same problem. IMAP configures fine on thunderbird and android phone but not osTicket 1.17.2 or the version before, SMTP works fine. I also have self-hosted mail server, and there are no connection logs coming from osTicket.

If you have a self-signed certificate the mailserver/webserver may be not liking that (most things don't nowadays). Can you can add a legitimate certificate (even a free one from Let'sEncrypt) and retest to see?

I'm using Lets Encrypt, so the certificate is not the problem. I think namecheap might be blocking outgoing connections on 993

UPDATE :
I was right, Namecheap was blocking port 993 outgoing connection, they've just opened up the port for me and it's all working now. @Kronos you might want to also check your outgoing connection on port 993 on your web server.
