Upgrade v1.15.8 to 1.16.3 not working

Debian 10 buster, phpV8.0.22 mariaDB 10.3.34, apache 2.4.38.

We have attempted this upgrade at least a dozen times now. We get to the osTicket upgrader and "Error: something went wrong". the upgrade completes, but navigation of the site stops working with a white screen. I have scoured the forum, and there are vague references to php errors, but I am unsure where to look for those. We have backups, and I even built a duplicate "test/dummy" box so I quit trashing the production box. Both live and test do exactly the same thing.

v1.16.1 and v1.16.2 do not even let the upgrader run. .3 is the closest to working.

Any hints/tips/tricks/pointers would be appreciated.

Not all version upgrades require the upgrader to run.
Generally you only need to run the upgrader if you are going from like 1.15.x to 1.16.x.
So since you didn't tell us what version you are running and what version you are going to we wouldn't be able to tell you if it should run. If the system doesn't run it automatically then it does not need to run.

Review your logs (general server logs, webserver error logs, PHP error logs, MySQL/MariaDB error logs, osTicket System Logs, Browser Console logs, etc.) for any related errors.

Sorry, the versions were in the title, not in the body of the post.

Upgrade v1.15.8 to 1.16.3.

It seems that the installer is just corrupting the database. I can restore the database and get the upgrader again, but it just errors out every time and tells me the installation was successful.

Then check the %TABLE_PREFIX%syslog table via the database and/or all other logs (general server logs, webserver error logs, PHP error logs, MySQL/MariaDB error logs, osTicket System Logs, Browser Console logs, etc.) for any related errors. You should be seeing some kind of error.

I had same issue, it ended up being radio button plugin (had to delete) and also the software-mods report plugin.

I can confirm it is the RadioButton plugin.

Now the dilemma becomes: "what to switch all of the RadioButton forms to prior to runniing the upgrade in order to not trash the database"? We use a lot of radiobuttons.

Any thoughts?

You should probably reach out to the 3rd party radio button plugin and ask them.
