Paste puts multiple lines, especially with formatting

Hi everyone, I'm a long time user, first time poster. Hope everyone is well and keeping safe.
I've got v1.14.3 running great, has been for many years, but one issue really bugs me: When I paste stuff into a ticket the editor always adds new lines before and after the paste. If I select some text and attempt to paste over it, this adds two new lines before and after the paste and keeps the original text. If the pasted text has any kind of formatting it will add two or three new lines before and after the pasted text.
Is there any way to return this to normal paste behaviour where you just get the text inserted without any new lines? I've trawled the forums and help but couldn't find anything, but i might be searching for the wrong thing.

Upgrade to one of the latest versions (v1.15.6 or v1.16.1). Redactor (the 3rd party text editor we use) has fixed a lot of issues since then.

Hi Kevin, thanks for the reply to this. I've been delaying updating the core of my installation because of a load of custom code running my invoicing system, but i've had a lot of spare time this weekend and have finally updated to v1.18.2 and I'm still getting this pasting/formatting issue.

doing a bit more research, I think it only happens in the staff backend. It seems to be okay on the customer frontend when opening a ticket which I assume is running the same redactor plugin?

The behaviour is the same accross chrome, edge and firefox. But it's fine using chrome from an android device on the frontend and backend.

I've just done a bit more testing too and a fresh install on another hosting package (only difference is PHP8.2 rather than 8.4 on my live site) and that doesnt have the issue.

Then maybe compare the differences between the working one and non-working one and try reconciling those differences to attempt to resolve the issue.
