I created a new field on my ticket form. I need to do frequent searches and I have this newly created field as a key. Today I use the "personal seach" option to find the records, but I would like to know if I could configure the quick search option available on osTicket to direct the filter to the new field I created. I have no idea what "personal search" is that you are referring to.
Quick Search is not customizable in the ui. You would have to locate the code the runs it, and alter it to suite your needs.

It depends really on what your looking for in the code. Some time I ahve an easy time finding things... but in this case I haven't ever looked for quick search.
Whenever I look for something I search for it on github.
